WebTide v0.7 released.

  • Import marker positions from a file.
  • Get constituent amplitude and phase for marker positions.
  • Generate tidal predictions for a series of times and positions read from a file.
  • Updated data sets needed for v0.7.

New Arctic Data set (artic8d)

In the fall of 2007 analysis of the modelled tidal currents that comprise the Canadian Arctic Archipelago WebTide package (arctic8c) revealed that the water depths were much too shallow in several places. This included Fury and Hecla Straits and Hell Gate. These depths were corrected and the modelling system described by Dunphy et al. (2005) (including the assimilation procedure) was used to generate a new set of fields for the five major constituents (M2, N2, S2, K1, O1).

Two new data sets available:

  • Bras d'Or lake
  • Upper Fundy
    • has been available for a while, but more information is now available
    • data is from an inundation model, so tidal calculations in or near wetting/drying areas will be compromised. A 0m contour has been added to show the boundary of the wetting/drying areas.

There is a small problem with installing WebTide/WebDrogue at BIO sites (and probably other DFO sites). The latest version of the MacAfee virus scanner does not cooperate with the installer. The version of WebTide/WebDrogue that includes the Java VM (Virtual Machine) will timeout with a message like "$JAVA_ENV not found" because the virus scanner takes too long to scan the file. If you already have the appropriate java installed, give the "without Java VM" version a try. Otherwise, you will have to contact Informatics (the HelpDesk) and get them to turn off the scanner for the minute or two it takes to install WebTide/WebDrogue.

WebTide v0.65 released.

  • x-axis label of "hours" now correct for the currents too. (Fixed for elevations in v0.64.2.)
  • Have switched to a different installer - install4j
    • Windows users now can have a shortcut icon on their desktop. (It is a default image right now. Anyone have any ideas?)
    • For Linux users, the main change is that you must have root privileges in order to install WebTide with the included java. Data sets are currently only available in .tar.gz format.
    • If any problems appear, please let us know.

April 2, 2004

a new Arctic data set is available.

  • covers a larger area that includes to the Alaskan border and the eastern side of Baffin Island.

February 27, 2004

WebTide v0.64.2 released.

  • fixed a bug dealing with the International Dateline.
  • fixed bug in WebTide where x-axis label on graphs always read "hours" even though the axis was really timestep number. x-axis is now the number of hours from the start date.

Some people have had problems installing data sets where, even though the installer states that it finished installing the data set, none of the files were actually installed in the data directory. The source of this problem is unknown. If you are experiencing this, you can now download a compressed file containing the data files for each data set.
