22nd Biennial Conference on the Biology of Marine Mammals – October 2017

One of the Bedford Institute of Oceanography’s (BIO) research scientists, Dr. Hilary Moors-Murphy, will be co-chairing the upcoming 22nd Biennial Conference on the Biology of Marine Mammals in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

From October 22-27th 2017, hundreds of scientists, policy makers and industry leaders from around the world will gather for the first time on the east coast of Canada to hear from multiple speakers, participate in workshops, and much more.

BIO EXPO 2017

The year 2017 marks the 55th anniversary of Canada's largest ocean research centre - the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. In celebration of this milestone, you are invited to learn about the Institute's various oceanographic research initiatives with an Ocean Science EXPO.

BIO 2012 Ocean Science Expo

Since 1962, the Bedford Institute of Oceanography has been a leader in scientific research and innovation. In 2012, BIO celebrated 50 years of discovery and hosted many events scheduled throughout the year. Among these events was the ever-popular Open House in September and a Gala celebration in October.

BIO Open House 2007

17-21 October BIO hosted an Open House. Visitors got to see and touch both live and dead sea creatures, pan for gold, sit in the Coast Guard rescue chopper, and walk through the Oceans Wild Fin Whale, and Rex, a lobster as old as BIO.

25-28 April BIO hosted an Open House which preceded the 24-28 October 40th Anniversary symposium. Winners of the Nova Scotia provincial junior/senior high school science fairs (23 future scientists) demonstrated their winning entries at one of the Open House exhibits.

In the Fall, during IYO (International Year of the Oceans), BIO hosted an Open House.

BIO Open House 1990

18-20 October BIO hosted an Open House for Technology Transfer which was preceded on Oct 17th by “client day”, which gave BIO’s clients from industry, universities, and government the opportunity to tour the open house exhibits, attend sessions on the science activities at BIO, and meet with various scientists in an informal setting in order to discuss common areas of interest and concern.

30 May – 3 June BIO hosted an Open House

In May, following the opening of the new buildings and renovation of older facilities, BIO held a 3-day Open House.

In November, after a BIO Building Expansion, BIO hosted a 3-day Open House which attracted 15,000 people.

The day after the Institute was officially opened on October 25, BIO opened its doors to the public.
